Foreign tourists who shop at local duty－free stores will get ″On－the－spot″ tax refunds starting January.
With the change，... visitors won′t have to show their receipts to customs officials when leaving Korea to get a refund.
The finance ministry said... under its proposed plan to revise the current policy， foreign tourists who buy items that cost less than 200－thousand won， or around a hundred and 70 U.S. dollars， would be eligible for immediate tax refunds at duty－free shops across the country.
In addition， each person would be allowed to buy up to 8－hundred－and－65 dollars worth of products.
According to the ministry， 79 percent of all tax refunds in the first half of the year... were given for products that cost less than 1－hundred－and－73 dollars.
The plan will be submitted to the Cabinet next month.
