Foreign tourists who shop at local duty-free stores will get ″On-the-spot″ tax refunds starting January.
With the change,... visitors won′t have to show their receipts to customs officials when leaving Korea to get a refund.
The finance ministry said... under its proposed plan to revise the current policy, foreign tourists who buy items that cost less than 200-thousand won, or around a hundred and 70 U.S. dollars, would be eligible for immediate tax refunds at duty-free shops across the country.
In addition, each person would be allowed to buy up to 8-hundred-and-65 dollars worth of products.
According to the ministry, 79 percent of all tax refunds in the first half of the year... were given for products that cost less than 1-hundred-and-73 dollars.
The plan will be submitted to the Cabinet next month.
