Javier Olazarán, MD, PhD, Gregorio Marañón Hospital, Madrid, Spain, discusses the safety of plasma exchange as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In the AMBAR study (NCT01561053), which evaluated plasma exchange with albumin replacement in mild/moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the treatment was well-tolerated. Dr Olazarán highlights the encouraging findings from the AMBAR trial and believes plasma exchange will have an important role in the early treatment of AD patients in the near future.
