The Kongo class battlecruiser was designed by a British naval engineer and built for the Japanese Imperial Navy just before WWI.
While the Kongo took part in WWI, it was not involved in any major engagements. It wasn’t until WWII that the Kongo really became a force to be reckoned with.
When the Washington Naval Treaty limited Japans ability to build new capital ships they decided to upgrade the Kongo, and from 1929-1935 the Konga Battlecruiser underwent major redesign to become a battleship.
When Japan resigned from The League of Nations and no longer restricted by the treaty, the Konga underwent more upgrades. By 1941 she was considered a battleship. The Kongo was extremely fast and took part in a number of WWII battles, including serving on the frontlines The Battle of Midway, Guadalcanal, Philipine Sea, and The Battle of Leyte Gulf.
In 1944, the Kongo was sunk by the USS Sealion.
In World of Warships gameplay, the Kongo-class battlecruiser feels a bit slow and is missing the scout plane in its stock configuration, but it is still faster than most stock battleships with better firing range and a total of 8 cannons.
Once you upgrade everything on the WoWs Kongo, it is a very fast ship with ridiculous range. The Kongo-class battlecruiser can be tricky to play in World of Warships since you have the speed and hit points of a battleship. The best way to utilize the Kongo is to stay back in the pack and use your range to pick off battleships and any other small ships in your sights. Pay attention to the World of Warships battlefield, you may be needed to bring your speed and range to the weak side. Don’t forget to use the scout plane, but make sure you have a good target and are fully reloaded.
