Shaping a Chin Target: Dog Trick Clicker Training Tutorial

Shaping Steps Outlined in the Video:
1) Reach Under The Dog's Chin & Touch it with your hand, then Click & Treat. x20 rapid repetitions
-Hand Shy Dogs will require several approximations of this before actually touching their chin. Do as many approximations and repetitions as necessary for your dog to be completely comfortable with having her chin touched. Don't move beyond this step until the dog is eager to have her chin touched.
2) Place hand 1/4 inch below the dog's chin & shape downward movement. Increase distance in subsequent sessions.
3) Present your hand in different positions: Right, Left, Higher, Lower
4) Generalize: trainer position, training location, & over different objects
5) Add a verbal Cue - Give the new verbal cue then present your hand
6) Add Duration - Delay the click
7) Transfer the Chin Target from your hand to other objects (stick, cushion, etc)
8) Use the Chin Target to teach new tricks & behaviors
