Transcript:
Hey guys, Dr. Zach here with Any Spine Chiropractic Center and today we are going to be talking about shoes and how they effect your spine and health.
1st off, the flip flop, they have zero support for your foot. Don't where these, ever....Ever!
Next up, lets talk about running shoes. First, when you go to the store and get a new pair CHECK BOTH SHOES. Just because one shoe looks great and passes all the checks doesn't mean the other shoe is going to. Also, make sure you get new shoes every 400 miles-ish, after that the shoe starts to break down and doesn't offer the support that you need.
Check #1:
Take your new running shoe, or your currently running shoe and forcefully press the front toes up, where the shoe creases should be over the ball of your foot, and thats where the toes bend when you walk normally. If you press it up and it creases way up in the arch that is a terrible shoe, all it is doing every time you walk is stretching out everything on the bottom of the foot, which leads to plantar fasciitis and other easily preventable foot conditions, which leads to knee conditions, hip conditions, back conditions. So easily preventable, take the shoe, press it up, and make sure each shoe creases in the same spot. One shoe may be great, the other, might not be so great. If you are at the store ask for a new box. And take the two good shoes, and the person that doesn't watch this video will get the two bad shoes.
Check #2:
Place both shoes on the ground and give each a little rock, they should have some support on the ground, one shoe shouldn't be wobbling all around while one shoe is stable. So give it a little back and forth action like this and make sure its semi stable on the ground.
Check #3:
Last thing we are looking for is the heel check. Place both shoes in front of you, and look at this part of the heel on the back. As you can see this heel is lower than this heel, its not by much, but you can see a difference. So if you can see a difference, even though it's slight, it's too much. Both heels should be exactly level with each other, if not, if you are getting brand new shoes, ask for a different box of the same shoe, they may look at you funny, but you know, make sure what your going to be walking around in for the next 400 miles is good. You don't want to be walking around on a poor foundation because its going to throw everything else off.
