Millions of Shiite Muslims in #Iran, #Afghanistan, #Pakistan and around the world commemorated #Ashoura on Friday, a remembrance of the seventh-century martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussein, that gave birth to their faith.
In Pakistan, thousands of Shiite Muslims marched amid tight security in the streets of capital city, Islamabad, marking the Ashoura festival to mourn the seventh-century martyrdom.
Guards could be seen searching people, and mobile services were suspended as part of security measures. (AP)
