Amid rising violence in Manipur, the Indian government has reimposed the Protected Area Regime in Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram due to security concerns, particularly from militant groups crossing from Myanmar. Foreigners must now obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) to enter these regions. The move follows increasing violence and the influx of militants, escalating the ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023.
