(21 Mar 2019) European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker arrived on Thursday for a European People's Party (EPP) gathering ahead of a key EU summit on Brexit.
At the summit, UK Prime Minister Theresa May hopes to persuade European Union leaders to delay Brexit by up to three months.
May will meet the 27 national other EU leaders, a day after she wrote requesting an extension to the Brexit deadline until June 30.
Meanwhile, the leader of the EPP, which is the main center-right alliance in the European Union's parliament, said the decision to suspend the party of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban from the group would be implemented until trust was built up again.
Manfred Weber said he was happy the party had been united in its decision to suspend Fidesz following a long dispute over its values and policies.
"We underlined that we are a party of values and we will defend them", Weber told reporters at the pre EU Council summit meeting of the EPP.
