I'm not sure why there is so much play in the rear end. Not sure if it's play in the spider gears or what. Or why there is crack sound.
UPDATE: The noise you are hearing is the shims in the rear differential. The shims get worn out and get play in them causing the noise. The only way you can fix this is if you get a shim kit or you get new spider gears. Also worth noting that you CAN replace the spider gears yourself. You do NOT have to set the backlash on the ring gear because you do not have to remove that. Note these are the parts for my specific truck. They might be different for your vehicle, so double check before hand. Please do so at your own risk. I take no responsibility for what repairs you do or try to do.
