I have owned this classic trout for a few months now and have had some great opportunities to test it on the water. I currently own the 7'6" 2wt version, and the 8' 3wt version. Both are excellent rods! I personally would recommend them to anyone out there. Even a seasoned fisherman. But I do think it excels for the individual who is just getting into fishing. At this price point, and the action it has, its great to learn to fish on.
Being a moderate action rod, makes this one of the best rods out there to learn on. Stiff action rods are difficult to feel your backcast. And therefor are really only for the seasoned fisherman who has perfected their cast timing. Not only is this rod great for beginners to learn to cast, but it also is awesome for light presentations when dry fly fishing, great for nymphing small flies and light tippet because the slower action of the rod will not rip those hooks out of the fishes mouth. But I definitely would not recommend this rod if you wanted to go streamer fishing, it just doesn't have enough power behind the cast to launch large, heavy and wind resistant streamers out at distance.
