The United States surpassed 60 million COVID-19 cases Saturday so the FDA approval of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine couldn’t come soon enough. It’s a major turning point in a pandemic that has claimed nearly 300,000 lives in the U.S.
That timeline was quickened after both the Washington Post and New York Times reported that White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn he would likely be asked to submit his resignation if approval didn’t come by Friday night.
