The Health Foundation's report on 'Building healthier communities: the role of the NHS as an anchor institution' explores the ways in which NHS organisations can improve the health and wellbeing of their local communities, outside of providing health care.
Anchor institutions are large, public sector organisations that are unlikely to relocate and have a significant stake in a geographical area. The report showcases where NHS organisations are already implementing anchor practices, and outlines how decision makers across the health care system can maximise the contribution the NHS makes to the social, economic and environmental conditions that shape good health.
In this webinar you will hear from two local system leaders who share their experiences of working together to develop and implement anchor strategies, including working in partnership to support community development, and progressive approaches to procurement and employment.
We also discuss our plans for supporting the scale and spread of practice moving on from the report and the commitment made by NHS England and Improvement in the Long Term Plan.
