Ceres, ( the dwar planet) was considered a planet a long time ago.
When Ceres was discovered on January 1, 1801, by the Italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi in a frantic race against other astronomers looking for a fifth planet between Mars and Jupiter.
Many scientists genuinely believed Ceres was the fifth rocky planet in the solar system, predicted by the Titus-Bode law, one a supposed numerical sequence preceded the position of the planets.
Ceres was described as a planet in various books and tables for over half a century.
Until the 1850s, when it was downgraded to an ASTEROID because it was too small.
Later in 2006, it was reclassified as a Dwarf Planet along with Pluto and other bodies.
