This is my first solo navigation flight from Moorabbin (YMMB) - La Trobe Vally (YLTV) - CWS (Cowes) - Moorabbin (YMMB). This video is used to share my flight experience, and should not be used for the purposes of training or coaching.
As with any flight training, you always learn valuable lessons along the way to reinforce your learnings, make mistakes that you learn from, that ensure you become a better pilot. This specific flight taught me many valuable lessons:
1. Always plan the latest leaving time you need to meet last light requirements. I faced a few delays due to weather and aircraft availability. In the end I left later than I should have, and as a result I arrived back to YMMB just on last light VMC requirements.
2. Importance of 1/60 calculations that I did incorrectly on this flight, although I managed to find the airport.
3. Clear checks will always save you. Words my instructor David always tells me. I should have identified my SARTIME had expired. It is great to know that the system really does work, and that your safety is important in the aviation industry.
4. The importance of weather planning to ensure you stay VMC. My time around the clouds tested my theory on weather I was flying VMC.
Overall I was privileged so have so many first lessons on this flight to reinforce the importance of safety.
Fly safe !!!!
