Swetha, a software engineer, and Venkat, a lawyer, moved from Bangalore to Brooklyn a few years ago. While they brought their professional skills with them, they also carried an emotional burden—a sense of longing and a hole in their hearts from leaving their family behind.
Adjusting to their new life was challenging, as they missed the feeling of connection and belonging. One day, Swetha decided to channel her emotions into something tangible. She prepared five lunch combos and took them to her local farmers market.
What started as a small experiment turned into a revelation. A few customers tried her food and came back, raving that it was the best lunch they’d ever had. Encouraged by the response, Swetha began cooking and serving meals regularly at the market.
As word spread, the line at her stall grew and grew—so much so that one day, the farmers market couldn’t handle the crowd anymore. That moment marked a turning point. Swetha and Venkat decided to move their operations to a commercial food kitchen.
Neither of them had any prior experience in the food industry in the U.S., but they believed that if you truly set your mind to something, you can find a way to make it happen. What started as an idea, a feeling, became something far bigger than they ever imagined.
