Tesla’s Shanghai plant hit a major milestone, exporting its one-millionth vehicle since opening in 2019. The facility, which produces Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, is a critical export hub for markets in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand, with an annual capacity of 950,000 units.
Tesla sold 86,697 China-made EVs in August, up 17% from July, but year-to-date sales are down 6.01%. Despite strong exports, the company faces rising competition from BYD and potential European tariffs up to 35.3%.
Tesla plans to boost competitiveness by producing a six-seat Model Y SUV in China next year.
