A short day at 20km. I just remember seeing the entry sign to Rabanal and thinking.."Yay..we're here" and then being confronted with the steepest road through the town! We arrived around 3 hours before opening time at the highly recommended albergue Guacelmo run by the Confraternity of St James. As the time passed more and more weary pilgrims arrived and we had quite a conversation going! We were greeted in english and all the pilgrims were served afternoon tea in the courtyard...it was wonderful! We attended the evening service in a quaint stone church across from the albergue..the gregorian chant felt like a healing balm on my tired body.
This is the day we first met Patrick from Nottingham in the U.K. who become our walking companion and comic relief! The three of us enjoyed a wonderful pilgrim meal that evening washed down with red wine!
