Foot overbridge collapses near Mumbai CST
A foot overbridge near the CST train station in south Mumbai collapsed Thursday evening. The foot overbridge connected the bustling Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station with the Azad Maidan Police Station.

A foot overbridge near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) railway station in Mumbai has collapsed.
A statement from the Mumbai Fire Brigade said, "Old foot over bridge walkway (slab ) had collapsed thereby causing injury. Approximately 10 people had been removed to various nearby hospitals in private vehicle before the arrival of the fire brigade. Search operations are in progress."
Police have confirmed that the process of clearing the debris is nearly complete. They say no more people are trapped under the debris of the CST foot overbridge.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reacted to the tragedy, tweeting that he was in contact with the Mumbai Police and the commissioner of the civic body BMC.
"Pained to hear about the foot overbridge incident near TOI building in Mumbai. Spoke to BMC Commissioner and Mumbai Police officials and instructed to ensure speedy relief efforts in coordination with Railway officials" he tweeted.
Union railways minister Piyush Goyal also expressed his condolences for the dead. A tweet from his office said that railway doctors and personnel were cooperating with BMC in relief and rescue operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the deaths, tweeting, "Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the foot overbridge accident in Mumbai. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Wishing that the injured recover at the earliest. The Maharashtra Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected."
NDRF says a 45-member team has been rushed to bridge collapse site in Mumbai.
The bridge which connected the area near the Times of India building with the iconic CSMT station was commonly known as 'Kasab bridge' after the 26/11 Mumbai attack terrorist passed through it during the terror attacks.
The incident took place around 7.30 pm when a major portion of the bridge caved in, an official said.
Some motorists who were passing beneath the bridge when it came down, were among those injured, he added.
"Fire brigade personnel reached the spot immediately and rescue work is in full swing. We have appealed the motorists to avoid the D N road to JJ flyover section," he said.
