The U.S. Congress has approved an invitation to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to address both the Senate and House of Representatives next month.
House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner has formally asked Abe to speak at the session scheduled for April 29.
Abe will be the first Japanese prime minister to have the honor of speaking in front of both houses of Congress, and the first to address any chamber in 54 years.
Abe is expected to hit on a variety of topics but special attention is being given to how he will incorporate Japan's historical details as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
The Abe administration has been criticized for watering down past war crimes, such as the sexual enslavement of women for the military, instead of openly apologizing for them.
