Lisa See is an acclaimed novelist these days but her break-through book was non-fiction and told the story of how her family moved from China to California. This is a very well researched family history that shows racism, miscommunication, love and pain, and much more as her family struggled to established itself. One of the best non-fiction books of the 1990s.
