We demonstrate the removal of a Lone Star tick as well as discuss the STARI and Alpha-Gal Syndromes. Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness is very similar to the Lyme disease rash, erythema migrans. It also presents with systemic symptoms of muscle pain, fatigue and headache. STARI appears to resolve with antibiotic treatment, but the agent causing the symptoms has never been discovered. The Alpha-Gal syndrome is an IgE mediated allergy to red meat that is caused by bites of the Lone Star Tick. Anaphylaxis can result in an immediate and delayed form.
