In the next installment of our sport climbing series, we got Team GB climber and Petzl athlete, Molly Thompson-Smith, to break down some climbing etiquette everyone should be aware of when taking on sport climbing, or any climbing for that matter. Molly is, as previously mentioned, a climber for Team GB and a Petzl athlete. Molly got into climbing when she was just seven years old and has loved it ever since, pushing herself further and further and constantly improving her skill to where she has achieved the monumental accomplishment of getting onto Team GB.
Climbing etiquette is quite simple, just some basic rules everyone should follow to ensure the protection of yourself, others around you, and the rock itself. Never climbing on wet rock is an important rule when climbing, as it can be dangerous to climb on, and could cause damage to the rock. Be sure to leave no trace and take all your climbing gear and equipment with you. Some other advice we got from Molly when getting into sport climbing is to go with people with experience, who know what they're doing or seek some advice from an instructor or online before heading out so they can show you some climbing etiquette and help you feel safe and confident.
