The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) monitors tire pressure. A CHECK TIRE PRESSURE warning message will appear in the Vehicle Information Display and the TPMS light will illuminate when one or more tires are low on pressure and air is needed. Adjust the low tire pressure to the recommended COLD tire pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Information label. After tire pressures are adjusted, drive the vehicle at speeds above 16 miles per hour. The warning and indicator light will disappear.
If the low tire pressure warning light flashes for approximately one minute and then remains on after you turn the ignition ON, the TPMS is not functioning properly. Have the system checked by a NISSAN dealer.
Tire pressure rises and falls depending on the heat caused by the vehicle's operation and the outside temperature. Low outside temperature can lower the temperature of the air inside the tire, which can cause a lower tire inflation pressure. This may cause the low tire pressure warning light to illuminate. If the warning light illuminates in low ambient temperature, check the tire pressure in all four tires.
The Tire and Loading Information label provides important information at a glance. It lists proper tire size and pressure. It also lists the maximum number of occupants for your vehicle and its maximum load capacity. Please check your Owner's Manual for the location of the Tire and Loading Information label on your vehicle.
Since tire pressures are different between the front and rear tires, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors must be reset after tire rotation.
After rotating the tires, a low tire pressure TPMS warning will illuminate. This means that the TPMS sensor positions must be relearned.
To place the TPMS system into re-learn mode for 30 minutes, decrease air pressure for at least 30 seconds continuously for each tire. You will need to reduce the air pressure more than 10 psi within that 30 seconds.
Then on the meter, start the relearn procedure by using the INFO knob. Turn it until the word "SETTINGS" appears, then push the info button. Turn the INFO button again until "RESET TPMS" appears, then push the INFO button. Then turn the INFO button again until "RE-LEARN" appears. Push the INFO button again.
The TPMS warning light flashes continuously when the system is relearning the tire positions. When the relearn procedure is successfully completed, the TPMS light will illuminate for 3 seconds and a chime will sound 3 times.
Now you can adjust the tire pressures to the cold tire pressure specification shown on the tire and loading information label.
If the tires pressures are correct, the TPMS light will turn off.
But if the tires are not inflated to the correctly, the TPMS warning light will illuminate. Recheck the tire pressures and adjust as necessary.
For more information, refer to the "Maintenance and do-it-yourself (section 8)" of your Owner's Manual.
A final note: This system does NOT detect a sudden drop in tire pressure as with a tire blowout. And it is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance.
