ISIS EXECUTES 20
Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported that ISIS shot dead at least 20 people accused of being government supporters in the Roman amphitheatre in Palmyra. ISIS captured Palmyra on May 21st, marking the first time the group seized a government-controlled city. According to SOHR, ISIS militants have so far killed 217 people in the city.
BANGLADESH RELOCATES REFUGEES
Bangladesh intends to relocate thousands of Rohingya refugees
who are located in camps along the southern border of Myanmar in Cox’s Bazar district, a popular tourist destination, to Hatiya Island in Bengal. An official from the Myanmar refugee agency,
Kumar Baul, said the relocation of the Rohingya was partly to do with the refugee camps’ negative effect of the tourist industry. Bangladesh is currently accommodating over 30,000 Rohingya refugees A Rohingya leader has said the move would be disastrous, exacerbating the living conditions for the Rohingya.
FRANCE WARNS IRAN
Urging other negotiating parties to take the same position, France announced it will not sign a nuclear deal with Iran unless allows inspections of its nuclear installations, including military sites. Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called these demands “arrogant.” France’s ambassador to the United States, Gérard Araud, said it is unlikely an agreement will be reached “before the end of June” or after. An Iranian negotiator, Abbas Araqchi, has also stated he believes negotiations may continue past the June deadline.
TEXAS FLOOD WARNINGS
The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a formal warning for Houston, Texas, warning that more floods may hit the city.
Emergency officials continue to search for bodies following storms that killed at least 17 in Texas and Oklahoma. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has listed 40 counties in Texas as in a state of disaster, including Houston.
