FEATURED LOCATION: Hawai'i Island offshore.
FEATURED SPECIES: Wahoo (Ono), Calamari (Ika), Yellowfin Tuna (Shibi).
It's another adventure aboard the Taipan with our Hall-Of-Famer boat captain Steve Yamasaki! This trip starts at the end of the day because our fishing plans depend on darkness. But it never hurts to drag lures on our way out of the harbor.
We will be night fishing for tuna (shibi) with live calamari (ika) as bait! This fishing discipline is known as "Ika-Shibi".
There are two parts to this fishing drill. First we take light tackle to hook Ika (squid) which we deploy as bait on heavier gear.
Once the Tuna takes the bait, the tug of war begins. This is truly a tug of war contest. No reels. Just hand to hand combat!
