Open daily from dawn to dusk through spring 2025, Ian Swordy: Direct Carving at Duck Creek features 3 monumental sculptures and one pedestal piece, on the grounds of historic Duck Creek Farm.
This exhibition offers a comprehensive view of Swordy’s innovative approach to stone carving. His artistic practice explores the physical and philosophical dimensions of carving, treating the process as both a form of live performance and a meditation on material transformation. Working primarily with marble, Swordy juxtaposes meticulously polished surfaces with raw textures and incorporates found objects to examine themes of permanence, imperfection, and artistry.
The artist's work has been exhibited widely, including recent solo exhibitions at Entrance Gallery in Red Hook, New York (2024), and Moskowitz Bayse in Los Angeles (2020). His work is currently featured in the group exhibition Grace Under Fire at the Shepherd Center in Detroit, Michigan. A graduate of Hunter College (BFA, 2007) and Yale University (MFA, 2009), Swordy is celebrated for his compelling ability to balance technical precision with profound emotional resonance.
