It was a cold and dreary morning, and Narges was busy at home as usual. Construction workers were working diligently; two were plastering the walls and one was installing the electrical wiring. A house that was getting closer to Narges and her children's dreams every day. But Narges' heart was heavy. There had been no news of Mehdi for two days, and this lack of news had made her impatient.
It was in the midst of these worries that the doorbell rang. Narges hurriedly opened the door and faced Mehdi. Mehdi's face was tired and worried, but seeing him was a surprise to Narges. She couldn't help herself and said angrily:
"Where have you been, Mehdi? Why haven't I heard from you? Why was your phone off? Do you know how worried I was?"
Mehdi took a deep breath and said:
"Narges, I apologize. I know I worried you, but I had to. There are people after me. I didn't want to come here and put you in danger. But I couldn't bear it and came, of course very secretly. I'm still afraid that they will find the address here."
Narges stared at Mehdi. There was concern in her eyes, but deep down she was happy that Mehdi was back safe. She calmed down and said in a calmer tone:
"Mehdi, this is my home and you always have a place here. But you shouldn't leave us without knowing about yourself. If you have a problem, we should solve it together, not just run away."
Mehdi nodded and said,
"I understand, Narges. But I can't let you and the children get hurt. I shouldn't have stayed here right now. I just came to tell you that I'm still with you and I'll protect you until my last breath."
Mehdi left the house in a hurry after a short while. Narges watched him leave, tears welling up in her eyes. She knew that Mehdi was struggling with many problems, but she hoped that one day all these troubles would end and their family would live together in peace again.
The workers were still busy, but Narges was no longer thinking about the house. Her whole mind was occupied with the future that might change the fate of Mehdi and their family.
