Food scarcity is threatening the fragile security in Mount Elgon as landlessness begins to take its toll. Residents who were evicted from the Chepyuk settlement scheme have resorted to begging for food from neighbours in whose houses they are now squatting. It is feared that if they are not allowed back to their farms soon, the security they are now enjoying may not hold for long.
