Life in refugee camps is difficult, especially for children with disabilities. Our team in Jordan noticed that many of these children were using equipment that didn't fit properly, causing more harm. So they took a risk and decided to do something about it.
With a deep understanding of the needs, limited budget and creative thinking, they built a workshop that hired Syrian refugees with carpentry and blacksmithing experience to repair and customize equipment for children with disabilities.
They initially thought they might get in trouble for taking this risk, but our inclusive education program was extremely successful and now we have helped more than 3,000 students with disabilities enroll in schools.
Now we plan to replicate this same project in other refugee camps.
