Russia claims that its armed forces have wiped out a group of militants and artillery that were dispatched to its southern Belgorod region from Ukraine. The anti-Putin Freedom of Russia Legion has claimed responsibility for the assault, the most serious attack on Russian soil since the beginning of Moscow's brutal invasion. Ukraine has denied any involvement whatsoever, yet Russia insists the Ukrainian authorities are to blame for the brazen "terror attacks against the civilian population."
