In November 2016 having just turned 19, Julian MacKay made his debut in the principal role of James in Mikhail Messerer's premiere of La Sylphide for the Mikhailovsky Theatre. MacKay is the first American to graduate from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Russia with a full Russian diploma having completed both the lower and upper schools. In 2015 he won the Prix de Lausanne apprenticeship to join Royal Ballet. In 2016 at age 18 he joined the Mikhailovsky Theatre as a Second Soloist.
Julian comes from a family of dancers, as all three of his siblings are classical ballet dancers.
