Nuremberg Volksfestival:
The first volksfestival in Nuremberg took place in autumn 1826 in honor of the Bavarian King Ludwig I. From 1833, the volks festival took place annually from that year until 1842.
When King Maximilian II visited Nuremberg in 1855, the volks festival took place for the first time on the site of today's city park , which was renamed from Judenbühl to Maxfeld for this reason.
After that, no volks festival took place for sixteen years before the tradition was resumed in 1872.
During the First World War , the festival was cancelled. From 1919, for the first time, the volks festival took place not only in autumn, but also in spring with a second edition.
In the years 1940 and 1941 the volks festival took place before it was discontinued due to the war.
The volks festival resumed immediately after the end of the Second World War.
