Mount Etna provided a spectacular night show on Sunday erupting in south eastern Sicily on its south slope.
According to news reports this latest eruption was announced by explosions and ash emissions.
The giant orange fountains of lava, spewing toward the sky, could be seen in the city of Catania.
Although volcanic ash clouds can cause flight disruptions, the nearby Catania airport was operating normally on Monday.
Authorities reported no danger to the towns that dot the mountain's slopes.
