The Secret to finding Matsutake on the WA Coast is simple. It's all about the habitat and the type of soil it's associated with. In this video, we found our first Matsutakes of the season on the WA coast in early November of 2024.
They were just starting to flush for the first time this season, and they are beautiful. They have an amazing aroma that smells like Cinnamon Red Hots. They are an excellent choice edible and one of our favorites in the late fall season.
We always end our Camping season with a final trip to the WA Coast and it never gets old finding such an abundance of mushrooms up and down the PNW Coast.
The soil I mentioned in the video is called Podzol, and you will always find Matsutakes where this soil and the conifers are present. It's the secret to finding Matsutakes. Well, one of the main ones.
