A question asked recently was, "What Causes Power Steering Fluid to leak?Welcome to Mercie J Auto Care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I'm Rick Smith, master certified technician. Basically what power steering does it it assists you. So if you don’t have power steering, turning the vehicle can be very difficult. My grandfather used to call cars without power steering "Jack Armstrong steering" What happens is we have a have a hydraulic pump that pumps pressure. That pressure can go as high as around 900 psi and that pressure helps us turn the week so it assists us with power. So we have a pump, and the seals can go out in that pump and leak. We have a pressure hose and that can leak. We have return hoses and those can leak and then we have either a gearbox or a rack which is the part that attaches to the steering components and those can leak as well. So basically what caused them leak is a failure of a hose or a failure of a seal. I hope this has been informational to you. Until next time, safe travels and blessings to you.
