In this “Live With the Author” interview, RRQ coeditor Amanda P. Goodwin chats with Margaret Vaughn about the article she and coauthors Seth A. Parsons and Dixie Massey contributed to RRQ’s special issue on the science of reading (SOR): “Aligning the Science of Reading With Adaptive Teaching.” This piece relates the research and discourse of SOR to adaptive teaching, an instructional framework in which teachers autonomously modify their practice to best fit their students. Vaughn describes how current practices can inhibit adaptive teaching and the ways teachers, principals, parents, and policymakers can use it to improve reading instruction.
