In the Sea to Sky Region, the mountains experience slow, imperceptible growth, rising just a few centimeters each year. This gradual geological transformation often goes unnoticed, as erosion keeps pace with the upward thrust. But the forces pushing up the mountains are still active. The mountains here are not merely static monoliths but rather living, breathing entities. With a past of rumbling volcanoes and cracking glaciers, earthquakes and landslides, it’s the most dynamic geology in all of Canada. When these geological features meet snow filled coastal storms - it's no wonder why this region is a natural haven for some of the world's most passionate, thrill seeking, adventurous skiers and snowboarders.
Stewards of the land, the Squamish Nation and the Lil’wat Nation have lived here since time immemorial, witnessing the dramatic shifts in weather and land, their history and legends telling the same stories as geologists do today.
A place now for all: the elements of the region have the power to move people. A landscape under constant evolution and influenced by the connection we have with these legendary mountains.
