I haven't seen 45596 Bahamas for almost 30 years & not since its recent overhaul.
I couldn’t miss seeing this lovely locomotive visit Devon for the very first time to witness it climbing the Devon Banks.
I wasn’t disappointed.
(To clarify, the first west of Aller Junction. Apparently, a Jubilee visited Paignton in the early 60's)
With mixed weather of heavy showers in the morning & full sun in the evening, my first shot was at Sampford Arundel, Wellington Bank on the climb to Whiteball.
I raced to Rattery to capture the loco on its climb to Marley Tunnel.
Arrived with just mins to spare but no show!
Having raced through Totnes ahead of time, Bahamas had been held at a red signal on the climb to Rattery.
The loco stalled at Tigley & eventually got going. The train was over 20 mins down at the summit & I filmed it going fairly slow as it passed, which was a little disappointing.
I had a very long wait at Hemerdon for the highlight of the day.
The 1:42 climb up Hemerdon Bank from Plymouth.
I set up & waited over 5 hours for the return run but it was worth the wait.
The Jubilee made a superb job of the climb with 9 coaches, unassisted!
My final shot was on the West bound climb to Whiteball at Burlescombe with lovely back lighting.
Sit back, turn up the volume & enjoy this great loco in action on new territory in Devon.
