MOSCOW, Idaho – Moscow Police have no murder weapon and no suspects in an attack on four University of Idaho students earlier this week.
Ethan Chapin, 2o, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20 and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were found dead in a Moscow home Sunday morning.
Moscow Police said their wounds were from an edged weapon, like a knife.
“We know you have questions and so do we,” said Moscow Police Chief James Fry, addressing cameras for the first time since the homicide.
Chief Fry said they have 25 officers working to follow leads and asked anyone with information to come forward.
He said investigators determined Ethan and Xana were at a party on campus the night before they were killed. Madison and Kaylee were at a bar downtown.
All of them returned to the home around 1:45 Sunday morning.
Just before noon, someone in the home called 911 to report an unresponsive person. By the time police arrived, four people were dead.
Chief Fry said he would not divulge who called 911.
There was no sign of forced entry, but police aren’t sure if the door would have been locked or unlocked.
When asked why police believe this was a targeted attack, the chief did not give a clear answer to that question.
Reporters also asked why so little information has been released, creating confusion and speculation in the community.
“The reality is, I should been standing here a day or two ago,” Chief Fry said.
Chief Fry said there were other people home at the time of the attack. Chief Fry said those people were not injured, but did not give a clear answer about their status at the time of the murders and wouldn’t answer if it was one of them who called 911.
“We don’t know why that call came in at noon and not in the middle of the night,” Fry said.
