Michael, known in the Pennsylvania harness race world as Mr. Cornbread, was a registered Standardbred we intercepted from auction through our Buy-Out Program in March. Our hearts broke as he stepped off the trailer, using three of his legs rather than all four. He had endured the pain of a broken fetlock for an unknown amount of months and had been forced through an auction before coming to us in his condition. He also had indication of active founder in his right foot, due to him bearing most of his weight on that one side. Sadly, there was nothing we could do to fix the damage to his leg. His joint was fused together, making him unable to walk properly or without pain. So, Michael received the Last Act of Kindness to relieve his pain and suffering. This is the reality of rescue work and why we think it is important for you to see both sides to our rescue work.
