In today's video, I decided to take the dogs and the 4Runner out without the camper and explore some of the beautiful areas surrounding Creede, CO. It was so strange sleeping in the 4Runner again minus all the things I used to have, but it was nice to have a break and experience the familiarity of the 4Runner.
After starting the new gig, my free time has been limited. While I was hired to only work part-time, I found myself working full-time hours. I did get one full day off per week, and lately I had been working on those days off, so this time, I wanted to make the absolute most of it. The San Luis Valley is an area I haven’t really explored much, so this was an opportunity to jump in to some nearby terrain and escape the heat with my dogs. Because my trailer had been secured down with steel rebar, it made it difficult to hitch up and take my camper with me, so I thought it would be fun to try living out of the 4Runner for one night, for old time’s sake.
My squeaks are back, so I will be regreasing my suspension and all the goodies down below.
The silence of nature is so soothing. Hearing the birds chip, the wind blow through the trees, and smelling the freshness of the backcountry are all restoring my mind. I am so thankful to be able to drive Chalupa to these places and do short hikes for the dogs. Agron’s hips are starting to get worse, so I don’t know how much more hiking we’ll be able to do – but I just want them to have the best adventure filled life they can while they’re able.
Creede, Colorado was founded in the late 1800s by Nicholas Creede who hoped to make big on the silver mining industry and bringing an end to lawlessness. I imagine the cowboys and bandits were real out here!
Opie’s is a locally run restaurant in the heart of Creede. If you’re looking for some coffee, fresh made pastries or donuts, or a quick breakfast burrito, you found your place! The small shopping area brings life to this magical place.
There are times where I miss living in the 4Runner. However, I don’t have the platform with my pull out kitchen, my mattress, or the rooftop tent anymore. It’s a little more spartan now, so I suspect it won’t be the same.
