I was kicking off three weeks of leave from Fort Drum, NY by flying down to Roanoke, VA for my first few days of vacation from the Army! This was the first leg of my journey, which had me flying from Ogdensburg, NY to Washington, DC (Dulles) so I could connect to Roanoke. I was flying on a United Express CRJ-200, and this route was brand new since United Airlines had begun service out of Ogdensburg only a couple weeks prior. This flight was very special being that for the first time, I was allowed onto the ramp before boarding, to be given a tour of aircraft as well as to be brought along on a walk-around inspection by the captain! After the walk-around, I was also granted permission to check out the cockpit and be given a quick rundown of the flight panels and instruments.
