Perspectives: An Introduction to the Arts and Social Sciences
CEPT Foundation Programme invites you to Homai Vyarawalla: A Researcher's Notes, a talk by Sabeena Gadihoke.
Sabeena Gadihoke is Professor, Video and Television Production at the AJK MCRC at Jamia Millia Islamia where she teaches courses in Digital Media Arts, Cinematography and Photography Studies. Her film Three Women and a Camera won several awards and this was followed by a book Camera Chronicles of Homai Vyarawalla.
Acknowledged as India’s first woman press photographer, Homai Vyarawalla began her career in the late 1930s. This illustrated talk introspects about how an engagement with Homai Vyarawalla for now over three decades alters the ways in which she has been perceived subsequently; not just as a pioneering woman press photographer in the subcontinent as she was seen initially but also as a mobile modern young woman who was a keen chronicler of cosmopolitan life in the city of Bombay, and of inner worlds, particularly those of other women like her.
