This is the first part of a series in which I will introduce Latin terms for body parts while speaking entirely in Latin, using many repetitions and gestures to reinforce new vocabulary. This first video focuses on the big body parts, as well as the helpful words "suprā" (above), "īnfrā" (below), "ante" (in front), and "post" (behind). I also use the adjectives "anterior/ventrālis" for the front or ventral part of the body, and "posterior/dorsuālis" for the back or dorsal part of the body.
I understand that "tergum" and "dorsum" (back) have some complicated usage history - in Classical Latin prose, "dorsum" is only used for the backs of non-human animals, but in Classical poetry and in post-Classical writings, "dorsum" is also used for the backs of humans. "Dorsum" is important for medical terminology because many terms are derived from it, including the adjective dorsal.
