This week we catch a glimpse of the PRR's sleek engine "Big Red", the nickname for GG1-class electric locomotive 4877, as it streaks past a crowd of enthusiastic onlookers trackside at Lancaster Station in Lancaster, PA, as they say 'Farewell to the GG1' on June 6, 1981. Passing through the hands of the Penn Central and then Conrail until its retirement in 1983, the 4877 resides today in the collection of the United Railroad Historical Society in Boonton, NJ, as a cosmetically-restored static display.
