U.S. Marines work alongside NATO Allies to keep safe every inch of NATO territory. Recently, during the French Army-led large-scale exercise Manticore in the south of France, they were integrated into a platoon-sized maneuver element to conduct offensive and defensive operations with our NATO Allies. The Marines are only a part of a larger force called the Marine Expeditionary Force, or MEF.
MEF is a combined-arms force consisting of ground, air, and logistics forces. It possesses the capability for projecting offensive combat power ashore while sustaining itself in combat without external assistance for a period of 60 days.
