Day 5 in the Florida Keys! Today the wind was still too bad to make it out to the offshore reefs. We decided to head back to Tarpon Belly Key, which in our opinion is one of the most unique keys in Florida. Tarpon Belly was used during the Cold War to house Submarines in the center of the island. Three large canals or cuts were dug into the island to conceal the subs. After the war was over it was sold and became a shrimp farm. Today all that remains is large concrete pillars that are believed to once be gates or locks. The canals are still there and offer a unique location to snorkel or dive along.
