1957, Realtor showing a new home to a couple, Kelowna, BC
1957, Canada's economy is thriving, new homes are being built everywhere. Kelowna's population is 10,000 people and about to enter a period of increasing growth. The Kelowna Floating Bridge is nearing completion and will usher in more development and growth for the valley, the completion of the Trans-Canada highway through the Roger's Pass in five years will further accelerate the growth. The city is beginning to spread north and east. Being shown to a couple is this brand new home, state of the art at the time, it has a certain quaintness today. Opaque glass divider wall at the front entrance, a solid brick fireplace almost a holdover from pre-war homes, a thoroughly modern kitchen to please the woman of the house. Built in full size closets with sliding doors in the bedroom, a natural gas fired heater and water tank in the unfinished basement and a carport. Conveniently, a brand new school and playground just out back, all on the edge of town, nice and quiet. Today, this home if someone can identify it and it's location is likely much closer to the centre of town than the outskirts. Likely a promotional film of the day produced for Charles D Jade Real Estate.
