Information Overdrive is coming to you from Vegas baby. We're at Levy Productions and I'm gonna show you the latest in master control. So, Mike. Yes. Levy Production, huge huge. What's the square footage?
Well, we have almost fifteen thousand square feet.
And how many editing facilities do you have?
Well, currently we have six online suites, and we keep two built off-line, on-line, effects and audio. So behind me is the machine room where all the magic happens. The heart of the facility. Let's take a peek. Sure. All this is kind of over-whelming when you first see it, any particular person, so you've got a lot of decks here, you've got all these controls.
I mean, it looks like the star starship Enterprise. What are all these things and how do they work together? Well, obviously, being an all non-linear facility, anything in, anything out, so basically our clients come in with whatever production format it's shot on, whether it be beta, DigiBeta, program HD anything.
all the HD formats, all the SD formats are pretty much represented in here. So the format tapes come in here. Our on staff machine room tape operator loads all the footage, it's all digitized to our central hard drive facility. We use the facilities terra block and it's a shared storage hard drive so all other rooms can access that footage.
So it's pretty seamless. One client can be working on a project in offline while another suite can actually so you'd be working on the same project you're doing audio and be sharing all that media.
What's the benefit of the terra block?
Well, mostly for ease of use for the client we only need to digitize the footage once. The [xx] we chose out of other storage solutions because it actually talks to all of our different types of editing systems so with the terra block it talks to avid, final cut as well as pro [xx]. So that's the main reason we went with that system.
Okay, so what about feeds. Live feeds, we are also Vyvex connected so we have fiber connectivity. We can do either tape feeds or live shots out of our studio. We can also do... do virtual up links where a client will come in. We can feed it from their desk and then it goes to like steel valley in real time.
they'll put it up to a [xx] so it basically becomes a virtual up link.
Okay. So if you have all the decks and all the machines in this room then I guess the benefit would be that Each individual edit suite, not only is there a good workflow, but it's cooler, and it looks better. Well cooler, looks better.all of those but coolers a good one because we live out here in Vegas.
So it gets hot. And as you know it gets hot and as you know and probably hear it we have hard drives cranking, decks putting off heat. You hear the fans, so the main reason for having a central machine room is getting all of the equipment in here. So when you walk into the edit bays, they are quiet, they're cool, climate controlled, and it's much nicer as a client experience for sitting in a room, so that's one of the real major factors with having a central machine room.
When you're talking about a client experience, what other perks do you get when you edit here? Well perks are something we like to say we specialize in. Creature comforts, as you'll see as you kind of look through our facility All the rooms are set up with living room style experiences, so nice really comfy chairs, big large 42-62 inch monitors, flat screens, and then you know we- We have like Goody baskets in all of the rooms.
You'll see in every room we cater to 'em with munchies throughout the day. We gotta really nice kitchen, gourmet coffee. We actually bake fresh-baked cookies all day, throughout so it smells really nice all the time. And we order lunch, dinner for clients it's all gratis, you know, on Levy Productions when they are here editing.
