"The UNICEF role is to support government of Indonesia which has made strenuous efforts to open the schools as quickly as possible after disaster, But also in speaking with parents here this morning it is very clear that they are bringing their children here with as much enthusiasm as they can master. It is giving the parents a chance to begin repairing their lives, and gives the children something to focus on, rather the just the traumatic events of two weeks ago."

STORYLINE
Some schools in Banda Aceh, in Indonesia, reopened on Monday for the first time since the tsunami.
They were supposed to reopen last week after the New Year break but obviously, that was delayed because of the death and destruction caused by the wave.
Some of the schools are not reopening because they are being used as centres to house refugees.
Others were completely destroyed by the disaster.
UNICEF is working together with the local authorities to try to get schools reopened as quickly as possible.
As in other locations hit by the tsunami, the organisation is giving out kits to schools with teaching aids, stationery, and books.
Teachers at this school are keen to get classes up and running. They say it'll help instil a sense of normality in the children, to begin the long recovery from the disaster.
On Monday 140 children were welcomed at the school, 60 of which had not previously attended the school, but who had come from nearby refugee camps.
Meanwhile, there were lots of absences among those who would normally attend the school.
Officials at the school said it was too early to know how many were victims of the tsunami, saying that some could still be recovering from the disaster or had evacuated to elsewhere in the province or country.
